By Air:

Jim Corbett National Park is a famous national park of India. This is world renowned park for the tiger conservation. Jim Corbett national park is attributed to the Jim Corbett who played important role in its establishment, Jim Corbett National Park is the oldest national park of India. Initially the park was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park located in Nainital district of Uttarakhand state.

The Jim Corbett National Park is a heaven for the adventure enthusiast and wildlife adventure lovers. Jim Corbett national Park is India's first national park which comprises 512.8 km area of hills, riverine belts, marshy depressions, grass lands and large lake and streams. The elevation ranges from 1275 feet to 4,000 feet. Winter nights are very much cold but the days are sunny. It rains from mid of June to September end.

History of Jim Corbett National Park
The forest reserve was private property of local rules around 1815-1820. The British took over the whole area and developed as their own hunting ground. In the year 1936 the area was reserved for wildlife and named Haily National Park. Later became Jim Corbett National Park – named after a great hunter turned conservationist Jim Corbett who played an very important role in the establishment of the beautiful national park.

Dense moist deciduous forest mainly consists of papal, sal, haldu, rohini (elephant feed) and mango trees, these trees cover almost 71 per cent of the park. The 10 per cent of the region consists of grasslands. It houses around 110 tree species, around 50 species of mammals, 580 bird and 25 reptile species. The rare Royal Bengal tiger of India resides here. The sanctuary was the first to come under Project Tiger initiative in 1973.

Jim Corbett National Park Geography
The Jim Corbett National Park is positioned between 29-25' to 29-39'N latitude and 78-44' to 79-07'E longitude. The standard altitude of the region ranges between 360 m (1,181 ft) and 1,040 m (3,412 ft). The present area of the Reserve is 1,301.58 square kilometers (509.09 sq mi) including 520 square kilometers (200 sq mi) of dense core area and 797.72 square kilometers (308.00 sq mi) of buffer part. The core area forms the jim corbett national park while the buffer contains reserve forests (496.54 square kilometers (191.72 sq mi)).

Jim Corbett National Park Climate
As far as the climate is concern, it is very normal place. The climate is same as other grass land in India. The temperature may vary from 8 C to 31 C in winter season and some mornings are foggy between Decembers to January. Summer temperatures likely do not raise above 43 C. Rainfall starts from mid June and continues to September ends.

Best Time to Visit Jim Corbett Park

Corbett National Park open completely from mid November to mid June. This park is being close during that period due to Monsoon. There are three main zones (gates) Jhrina zone is open throughout the year for visitors where one can enjoy jeep safari up to 30 to 35kms.. Bijrani zone usable from mid October and the main core zone of the national park is Dhikala is being usable for 15th of Nov.

The best time to visit Corbett Park is from 15th November to 15th June because during this period of time all the tourism zones are opens for tourist where every wildlife lover can fully enjoy the entire Corbett National Park jungle area. The gates are closed at sunset and no night driving is allowed.

Monsoon (July - September) :

This is the best time for those who want to avoid crowd and want to spent time for walking and trekking. This is the best time to observe flora in Corbett. Avoid crowed weekends on that time.

Winter (October - February) :

This is best time for birds watching and catches the sight of Tiger. Nights get very cold. One can enjoy full jungle adventure on that period.

Summer (March to June) :

Summer season is the ideal time for sighting animals

About Jim Corbett National Park



Jim Corbett National Park was founded in 1936, as the Hailey National Park. Later it has changed to Jim Corbett National Park in the honours of fabled hunter-Jim Corbett is best known About Jim Corbett National Parkfor his book “The Man-Eaters of Kumaon”, and was greatly revered by local people for shooting tigers that had developed a liking for human flesh. Corbett is famous for its wide variety of wildlife and its beautiful location in the foothill of Himalaya by the Ramganga River. With the recent inclusion of the Sonanadi wildlife sanctuary to the west, Corbett has grown form 520 to 1318 sq km.

More commonly seen wildlife includes the wild elephant, langur monkey(black face, long tail), rhesus macaque, peacock, and several type of deer including chital(spotted deer), sambars, hog deer and barking deer. There are also crocodiles, the odd-looking gavial or gharial, monitor lizards, wild boars and jackals. Leopards (referred to as panthers in India) are occasionally seen.

Corbett is also a bird-watcher’s paradise, and since the creation of the Kalagarah Dam on the Ramganga River, large numbers of waterfowl have been attracted here.

Best Time to Visit: Jim Corbett National Park is open form mid-October to mid June. There is being very heavy crowed during the weekends. All the gates of the park are closed at sunset and no night driving is allowed. Dhikala resorts are the main accommodation centre in the park.

Getting There & Away: Ramnagar is the nearest railway station. Famous hill stations Nainital(62kms), Almora(122kms), Kausani(176kms) far from there.
